Duties And Responsibilities
& Minimum Requirements: The Imaging Science and Information Systems (ISIS) Center is a medical research and development organization at Georgetown University Medical Center that specializes in information and imaging technology for personal healthcare, public healthcare and national bio-security. The Division of Integrated Biodefense (DIB), a division of the ISIS Center, is comprised of a multidisciplinary group of individuals with experience in the following fields: public health, epidemiology, medicine, information systems and technology, geography, foreign language, applied mathematics and policy science. The DIB Operations Center monitors global media coverage of a range of infectious disease threats to the human, animal and plant world.

Responsibilities and Duties:
The ISIS Center is seeking a Watchboard Analyst for the European Region to monitor the progression of global H5N1 avian influenza and other infectious disease events in Europe using publicly available news media. The analyst will provide written reports of significant events to his/her senior analyst for potential posting on the Watchboard. The analyst will be required to work independently and as part of a group in his/her region of responsibility. The analyst will be required to conduct infectious disease surveillance for various regions in Europe, with attention to the historical, economic, sociopolitical and cultural characteristics of the regions. The analyst may be tasked with providing support to other regions or with reporting non-biological events as needed. The analyst will be required to attend an internal training program, which will provide him or her with the necessary skills to utilize software tools, follow standard operating procedures and understand the disease surveillance methodology.

Job Requirements:
A bachelor's degree or equivalent training is required, preferably in the biological sciences, although degrees in other areas will be considered. Excellent English writing skills, interpersonal communication skills, internet/research skills, self-motivation and a strong regional knowledge of Europe are also required. Proficiency in at least two of the following languages is required: Dutch, Italian, Hungarian, and Romanian.
