Yahoo! Labs is pioneering the new sciences underlying the Web. As the center of scientific excellence for Yahoo!, Yahoo! Labs delivers both fundamental and applied scientific leadership through published research and new technologies powering the company's products. Yahoo! Labs is looking for a highly motivated Front-End Research Engineer in Barcelona. You will be responsible for developing user interface Social Media prototypes for the web, desktop and high-end mobile devices such as for the iPhone, iPad, and Android handsets.
Research Engineers at Yahoo! Labs work alongside our world-class scientists to deliver the next generation of businesses to the company. Engineers at Yahoo! Labs have the opportunity to work on a variety of project types, including: rapid prototype and proof-of-concept development, research engineering libraries, tools, and platforms for distributed computing and algorithm evaluation, as well as working as part of a team directly with Yahoo!'s scientists. The successful candidate will be passionate about software engineering yet able to thrive in a dynamic research environment. In this position you will be working together with our scientists to develop novel software engineering solutions, implementing prototypes and developing machine-learning systems for social media, on a large scale, in a distributed environment, using vast amounts of data.
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Computer Science (Ph.D. a plus, but not required);
- 3 Years relevant work experience developing in PHP, Javascript,
DHTML, AJAX, HTML5, Python, Flash/Flex, etc. C/C or Java a plus;
- Experience with SQL-like databases;
- Experience with UNIX/Linux systems is a plus;
- 2 years front-end development experience, mobile a plus;
- Fast learner with strong problem solving and analytical skills;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Thorough understanding of web technologies;
- Passion for developing innovative end-user state-of-the-art applications;
- Knowledge of machine learning and past research experience a plus;
- Experience working with large-scale environments (Hadoop) is a plus;
- Interest in user evaluation and design is also valued.
