Sports Anchor/Reporter/VJ (Sports Media/PR/Broadcasting)We have an immediate opening for a full-time Sports Anchor/Reporter/VJ. This is the #2 position of a 2-person department. The person hired for this job will be able to clearly display how he or she is going to make sports-related stories matter to the 80% of the audience who says they don't care about sports. We are looking for a dynamic, creative individual who will bring new ideas to our team. In addition to our on-air efforts, we place great emphasis on covering sports stories and issues on the web, wireless, social media and other new media platforms. If you just want to pull clips from the feeds and shoot highlights, this is not the job for you. Your resume reel should clearly reflect your nontraditional approach to sports and examples of stories you've broken or you're wasting your time and mine.
Core Job Functions:
Reporting, shooting, editing, writing and producing stories for on-air, online, social media and other new media platforms yet to be developed. Must have a solid grasp of all sports. Experience covering SEC teams a plus. Candidate should be able to build local contacts to break local sports-related stories. Must have a proven ability to tell effective stories with words, video, sound and graphics. A superior ability to enterprise sports stories that will set our station apart from the others. Must have a proven track record of producing unique sports content for the web and be able to show how you showcase those efforts on-air. Must have a proven commitment to developing and implementing sports marketing (revenuegenerating) projects. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
Ability to edit video on non-linear video systems, particularly Final Cut Pro. Ability to shoot video on Sony EX-3 or other similar formats. Must have a willingness and interest in experimenting with new ways to tell stories. Ability to work well with people in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment. Ideal candidates must be self-starters, hard workers, be versatile and efficient. Good communication skills and team-centered mindset. Must possess a valid Driver's License and have a clean driving record.
Education Requirements:
A college degree in Communications or related-degree is preferred. Also prefer candidates with at least 1 year experience as a reporter/anchor at a commercial television station.
Physical Requirements:
Dexterity to operate photography equipment. Position requires employee to work various days of the week depending on the sporting season, weekends, holidays and in less than ideal weather conditions. Should be able to lift at least 35 pounds with ease.
