This individual should be a highly organized news and politics junkie who can work successfully in the fast-paced environment of a daily website, perform final edits without oversight, write stories, and help maintain Election 2012 coverage. - Top-edit stories - Craft SEO-friendly heds and deks - Choose, crop, and caption photos as needed - Manage promotion of stories on site using CMS - Write pieces, as needed; pitching, researching, and executing stories ranging from aggregated opinion briefs to slideshows - Be responsible for covering various beats - Participate in a daily ideas meeting - Contribute to ongoing development of the site as a whole, brainstorming new edit concepts, etc. - At least 3 years experience working as an editor/writer on a daily news website - Ability to deliver clean, concise writing under tight deadlines - A passion for national affairs and social issues - Ferocious research skills - Intellectual curiosity - A demonstrable sense of (dry) humor is a plus - Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic media environment
