The YAP is the senior orchestra under the Stamford YAP (SYAP) umbrella, which also sponsors a Young String Ensemble, Young' people's Symphony, YAP, two Flute Choirs, two Jazz Ensembles, and a Summer Jazz Workshop. The organization, now in its 53rd season, serves the Fairfield County area. With a concert season from September through May (with concerts held on Sundays in November, March and May, plus an additional Holiday concert in December), weekly rehearsals take place on Monday evenings, and it has been traditional to add two Sunday section rehearsals prior to a concert. The new conductor will replace the Founder of the ensemble who is retiring after 52 years in the post; therefore the position also includes the Music Directorship of the entire organization, which includes overseeing and reviewing the performance of all conductors, sanctioning repertoire selection, and setting the proper tone of non-competitiveness within a nurturing environment, continuing the philosophy of the Founder as central to the mission of the organization for the future.
