Published Job Title IT Program Manager Published Division/Department HMH Information Technology Requisition # 2402 State Florida City Orlando Country United States Percentage of Travel 30% - 40% Position Type Full Time - Regular Shift 1st Shift Interest Category Information Technology External Description The HMHIT Program Manager will be assigned to key initiative within a core platform / product program (e.g. BI, Pub Tech, iBusiness) to insure the formalization and compliance to HMH IT standards and processes (e.g. project governances, change management, release management); provide technical project management; provide overall all communication; and gain visibility to needs, progress, and actively address issues, risk and concerns. The key value is that this role will focus on the K-12 product / platform disciplines, being mindful of solutions as they evolve throughout the project life cycle. This position is one that will proactively work with all contributors and participants across the enterprise and have a comprehensive view of the end customer for the given domain/platform, planned features and enhancements (release plan), technical development (technical road map), and all organization, budget, and resource impacts and challenges. The Program Manager is responsible for the direct, hands-on leadership and quality execution of all activities during an engagement. This person is responsible for the deliverables and the teams that produce them, ensuring that client and Houghton Mifflin goals on the engagement are met. He or she leads the development of the project approach and plan, is responsible for delivering the project on time, within budget, and to Houghton Mifflin's high quality standards. The Project Manager is focused on the day-to-day activities of the team, coordinating and driving the team's efforts towards successful delivery of engagements. Requirements Represent HMH IT interests, standards and practices as Program Manger with the business platform stakeholders , sales & marketing, DRPD development, Publishing technology and within HMH IT Program Management assigned projects responsibilities: - Manage the day-to-day activities in a wide range of a technology projects - Track all aspects of the project - including but not limited to ? Deliverables ? Risks / issues / dependencies ? Outstanding Items . Requests for Change ? Drive project schedule(s) ? Monitor & communicate progress ? Track and escalate issues ? Manage the budget ? Manage scope ? Product road map ? Coordinates all cross-functional activities and ensures continuity of project vision and development plan across all tracks; encourages creative cross-functional collaboration - Report status accurately and transparently to the HMHIT &Project Sponsor customer - Determining project staffing requirements - Work with subject matter experts to define an approach to each requirement - Orchestrate the detailed technical work of the project - Create and maintain the project plan - Set and manage client expectations - Control project scope - Manage the budget - Anticipate issues before they arise and drive the resolution process - Ensure an on-time and stable release Communication coordination and reporting Process improvement Effectively present information to management and team Contributing to Project Management process improvements Other responsibilities
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Required: ? Bachelor's degree ? Minimum of 5 years experience managing digital platform development projects and /or digital product production programns ? Experience in the Publishing industry - product development and delivery ? PMP Certification, or equivalent ? Web development management ? Minimum of 5 years of hands on software development experience. ? Experience with the Rational Unified Process and or Agile ? Experience expressing requirements as Use Cases ? Experience managing Time-box projects ? Exceptional client communications ? Experience setting and managing client expectations ? Experience controlling project changes ? Ability to conduct effective meetings ? Ability to report status clearly and honestly ? Knowledge of Software Development best practices and Software Development Lifecycle Process Preferred: ? Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent ? Important Knowledge and Background o Publishing technology & architecture of learning platforms o Understanding of digital content ? UI design management ? Content production management ? Publishing experience ? Knowledge of or experience with J2EE development ? Knowledge of Object-Oriented Design principles and coding techniques for software development lifecycle helpful
