Director, University Technical Operations (Sports Media/PR/Broadcasting)

Our Network has an excellent opportunity for a Manager of University Technical Operations. This position is responsible for directing the day-to-day operational, technical and engineering functions of Student U. Serves as the point of contact for our University video service coordinators. Assists in the creation of network operational policies, procedures and training manuals as it relates to our fly packs and on air Student U product. Looks to create a pool of potential crew members by tracking students throughout their schooling and after graduation to determine success rate of our program. This position is based in Chicago, IL.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops and designs standard operational guidelines for Student U. Establishes troubleshooting guidelines for the identification and resolution of potential problems prior to air and for the review of past problems to ensure they are not repeated. Represents network on weekly conference calls with University contacts to ensure that all information is being delivered in a timely manner and within the guidelines that have been established. Disseminates information to our staff regarding Student U productions.
  • Tracks all students involved in the program. Provides production grades, work to improve those grades and work to achieve a potential pool of our remote crew members.
  • Oversees yearly deployment of fly pack gear to each school. Oversees spring/summer return of all equipment to Chicago for off-season maintenance. Works with our engineering department to repair all broken equipment during the season.
  • Crafts and implements strategic operation and communication workflows, procedures, and facility standards for Student U programming.
  • Daily communication with all video service directors. Needs consistent contact to make sure all technical/staffing questions are being handled.
  • Pinpoints schools that are struggling with their productions. Organizes on-site training seminars with the students that focus on technical/production training. Organizes fall training each year with new Student U personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast or related field preferred. Minimum 5-7 years' experience in a network operations or technical facility role. Knowledge of our Network's sports.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, proficiency in negotiation, and presentation, as well as, solid interpersonal skills are required. Ability to communicate and understand general technical information on TV facilities and equipment.
  • Ability to manage multiple high profile projects. Provide strong leadership and solid decision-making skills under tight deadlines and demonstrate sound analytical thinking.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Explorer are needed.
  • Sound organizational skills and attention to detail are required. Demonstrate ability in developing and maintaining effective business relationships is necessary. Must be able to multi-task and work effectively under changing priorities and daily time constraints. Strong interdepartmental communication is a MUST.
  • Works in a dynamic professional office environment as well as frequent work in a restricted technical setting operating on strict real time deadlines.
  • Some travel required.
