The objective for this candidate is to prioritize the backlog of automation efforts and quickly iterate over key automation solutions to continuously increase the efficiency of LinkedIn’s engineering, quality and siteops teams.Skills You will direct the tools team to build and continuously improve key frameworks and tools that allow LinkedIn to develop, build, release, test and monitor the LinkedIn system in an increasingly efficient manner. You will be responsible for coordinating communication and maintaining transparency throughout the process across the organization. Responsibilities: * Define and coordinate the tools team’s efforts * Gather metrics to drive the next iteration automation improvements * Manage complex automation projects, breaking them into smaller efforts for timely delivery of incremental automation improvements * Migrate the build framework to a binary dependency model * Build a scalable deployment and configuration framework that can be leveraged across development, QA and production environments * Build release management tooling that provides visibility into the planned efforts, current and projected state of a Linkedin release * Iterate on site monitoring solutions * Build smaller productivity enhancing tools for developers, i.e. source templates, IDE plugins etc. Requirements: * 5-7 years of team leadership experience * 7-10 years of software development experience * Expert level understanding of SDLC and tooling: o Build frameworks and build lifecycle management tooling: ant, mvn, ivy o Build artifact repositories: artifactory o Deployment frameworks: chef, smartfrog, controltier, puppet o Source control: svn, git, cvs o Configuration management o QA automation: selenium, junit o Production monitoring solutions: keynote, zenoss, hobbit, nagios * Expert level understanding of building, releasing, deploying and managing java based consumer web 2.0 applications * Strong communication skills, both oral and written * Metrics driven: strong affinity for measuring, managing and refining workflow-based processes * Excellent people skills: This includes the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with people whose working styles and communication styles differ broadly. * Relentlessly self-starting with excellent sense of priorities and the ability to serve multiple customers concurrently * Demonstrated ability to build cross-functional teams capable of completing all phases of major projects and initiatives * Ability to work in a fast paced, high volume, test-driven, collaborative and iterative environment * Bachelors degree in engineering or computer science, or equivalent experience * 5 years experience working with 24/7 production systems * 3 years experience working in consumer internet companies * Experience with agile project management highly desired * Strong analytical skills paired with strong, methodical troubleshooting skills * Ability to effectively managing horizontal team supporting numerous cross functional teams.
