Director of Marketing - Curriculum Division
Job Summary:
The Curriculum Marketing Director is responsible for development of branding and marketing strategy for the sale of Catholic curriculum products to parishes and schools in a highly competitive field, focused on reaching a wide mix of educated parish leaders, priests and religious and volunteers. This position supports sales messages and individual marketing efforts of a national outside sales force and drives web marketing efforts, while overseeing the activities of the Marketing Manager and Marketing Coordinator.
Essential Job Functions:
Develops and implements the overall branding strategy for Our Sunday Visitor curriculum under the umbrella of Our Sunday Visitor Publishing.
Develops and implements the marketing strategy for selling curriculum to parishes and schools and for selling high school textbooks to high schools, including bilingual curriculum to Hispanic parishes and schools.
Ensures effective control of marketing results, and takes corrective action to guarantee that achievement of marketing objectives falls within designated budgets.
Tracks the effectiveness of marketing strategy through key codes and other measurements.
Collaborates with the Design and Composition Departments to identify and test new promotion formats, vehicles and designs and to maximize postal savings and response rates.
Works in conjunction with the Web Team to leverage existing relationships with social media contacts to drive book sales and to test outbound web efforts to drive traffic and sales.
Proactively conducts industry research, customer interviews, product reviews, and surveys or focus groups when applicable, to ensure maximum response rate to messages, vehicles and designs as well as to further populate data gaps in CRM and other tracking systems.
Actively participates in overall marketing strategy planning and development for Our Sunday Visitor Publishing to maximize cross promotion and consistency of message and to ensure the consistency of the Our Sunday Visitor branding message across all individual product marketing efforts.
Manages the Curriculum promotion budget for print ads, direct mail, catalog(s), events, and web promotion.
Implements project-based marketing efforts as needed, including vacation bible school, product launches, etc.
Meets with key clients, assisting sales representatives with maintaining relationships and negotiating and closing deals.
Oversees national event marketing and sponsorships for Curriculum.
Supports local event marketing and outside rep marketing efforts.
Collaborates with sales team to provide new marketing ideas and concepts for staff and customers on an as needed basis.
Manages and directs staff including recruitment, selection and development to achieve Company goals and objectives.
Requirements:
·A Bachelors’ degree in marketing or a related field of study and a minimum of 7 years of related experience, with progressive management experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
·Recent experience in the curriculum industry is required; an understanding of the Catholic curriculum industry is highly desired.
·Proven in-depth knowledge of sales and marketing techniques as they apply to a national market via the web, direct mail and trade publications
·Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally or in written form as well as experience in negotiation and management of contractual arrangements and use of conflict management and resolution skills
·Demonstrated ability to work independently to develop creative and cost effective branding and direct response solutions that are based on industry trends and customer needs
·Demonstrated ability to anticipate and solve practical problems and resolve issues
·Proven ability to work cooperatively across multiple departments to effectively drive higher response rates across product types and customer groups over the long term
·Demonstrated success in the simultaneous management of multiple priorities and deliverables with a focus on continual improvement is required; project management experience is desired.
·Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office products
·An understanding of marketing research techniques and analysis and knowledge of effective design, layout and copy is desired.
·An understanding of the Catholic market, in terms of individual Catholics and parish life is highly desired.
