Control Systems Engineering Manager

Daktronics, recognized worldwide as a leader in the large display industry, designs, manufactures, sells, and services dynamic audio visual communications systems for customers in three primary markets: sports, commercial and transportation. Daktronics also designs and manufactures a variety of sophisticated rigging systems for theaters, auditoriums and athletic venues. This position will be focused on the rigging products only which are designed and manufactured out of the Victor, NY facility.

1. Directly manage a small group of Engineers to facilitate contract and service work on schedule and within budget. Be the leader in process development and continuous improvement initiatives.
2. Directly responsible for all research and development activities pertaining to electrical control systems and software development.
3. Manage and coordinate internal and outsourced software development activities with multiple vendors for standard and custom product.
4. Develop test plans to verify that new software complies with its functional specification.
5. Recommend appropriate control systems to meet customer expectations/specifications using typical system offerings where appropriate. Must have the ability to read and interpret project plans and specifications.
6. Review system specifications and assist sales/project management in assessing customer’s needs for theatrical rigging systems and related control equipment.
7. Design and document complete electrical submittal packages based on existing and future control systems using AutoCad 2010. Drawings and BOM’s shall be managed via the corporate system only.
8. Setup and test new equipment as needed. Direct and perform systems level testing.
9. Assist in providing maintenance and operator training on a quarterly basis.
10. Research and test control equipment for non standard control systems as needed.
11. Draft service quotes when needed and schedule the most appropriate employee to execute the work.
12. Competently represent Daktronics to customers in a positive, professional manner. Use good judgment and make good decisions. Become knowledgeable of and follow company procedures.
13. Travel to customer site if needed to setup, test and train on various control systems and equipment.
14. Troubleshoot problems over the telephone or on site. Be on-call for Help Desk support; may include evenings and/or weekends.
15. Consistently strive to improve designs and product quality.
16. Perform other duties as assigned and needed to meet customer and department expectations.



Requirements:

  • Required education – BSEE or BTEET with 5 years of relevant experience managing other Engineers.
  • In depth knowledge of open and closed loop motion control systems utilizing custom HMI and PLC programs.
  • Must be experienced with designing control systems utilizing single and three phase AC voltage as well as low DC voltage.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of the National Electric Code as well as knowledge of Domestic and International standards pertaining to CE, UL and CSA. BGV-C1 a plus.
  • Must be familiar with common practices associated with tuning and programming systems using VFD’s.
  • Experience in an ISO9001-2008 manufacturing environment a plus.
  • Ability to travel via ground and air.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record. Motor vehicle records will be verified.
  • Theatrical experience and specifically automated rigging experience a plus.
  •  Good written and verbal communication skills. Bi-lingual a plus.
  • Some International travel required.
  • Ability to work at heights, work from a ladder and ability to carry ladder and/or tools from vehicle to work site.
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal.
  • Effectively exercise discretion and independent judgment.  
  • Background check may be conducted.
