Silicon Valley Community Newspapers is a group of weekly community newspapers with offices near downtown San Jose. We have an opening for a reporter to cover the city of Campbell in a way that lets readers understand how city issues and decisions affect them. This reporter also contributes to our West Valley coverage, which includes the communities of Los Gatos and Saratoga, by writing features and occasional cover stories relevant to the West Valley in general.
Reporter is expected to turn in a minimum of five to six solid stories each week for print and web, and must be willing and able to turn short versions of news stories around quickly for web-and then finish stories for a more complete print version. Additionally, the reporter is expected to write briefs and short items as needed quickly and accurately. Reporter will also write cover stories of 30-40 inches every few weeks.
Reporter is expected to know the communities he/she covers and bring solid story ideas to weekly budget meetings. We want reporters to stay ahead of the news, so readers can respond to issues instead of just read about things that have already happened.
