Job Description: Position Summary: The Communications Specialist of Discovery Networks Latin America / US Hispanic (DLA/USH) will support corporate communications activities for the Latin American and US Hispanic markets. This position plays a key role in the department by coordinating and supporting communication flow across the divisions and the various regions. The Communications Specialist will support the team on various projects including the maintenance of all key communications vehicles including press lists, editorial calendars, key facts and figures network publicity updates, bios and more. The Communications Specialist will also work on internal communications, and social media outreach with the goal of promoting DLA/USH and reinforcing brand presence.
Responsibilities: 1. Develop communications materials including executive personnel announcements, trade announcements, bios, briefing backgrounders, internal communications stories, etc. 2. Proactively develop media outreach strategies that support DLA/USH overall business objectives. 3. Work closely with DNI regional communications teams to drive consistent global messaging. 4. Brand Champion for DLA/USH's network portfolio - incorporating network programming, channel positioning for each region and competitive considerations. 5. Track press coverage and prepare press clippings reports. 6. Maintain press lists, editorial calendar, conferences and awards lists; manage the upkeep of boilerplates and fast facts, network overviews and executive bios. 7. Support the planning and execution of internal/external DLA/USH corporate events. 8. Act as liaison to Discovery Creative for design requests. 9. Support high-profile communications activities for corporate priorities (e.g., Henry Martinez, SMT Team, as well as DNI team - Zaslav, Hollinger, etc. LatAm trips, Summits, etc.). 10. Coordinate the development and execution of DLA/USHs overall social media strategy in collaboration with Corporate's Social Media teams. In addition, monitor activities across departments, regions and channel brands, guiding participation on integration and best practices. 11. Monitor, anticipate and disseminate key information on the evolution of social media with a focus on how global and regional changes and new trends in social media can improve the effectiveness of DNI's overall communications efforts. 12. Perform other duties and research projects as assigned.
Requirements/Metrics: * College degree required, preferably in communications or journalism. * Must have 3-5 years of public relations/media relations experience. * Superb written and verbal skills in Spanish and English (Portuguese a plus). Must have experience writing press releases. In addition, great interpersonal skills are essential. * Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, to meet tight deadlines within the budgetary constraints, and to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously and autonomously. * Must be an independent and strategic thinker who is a strong team player and willing to take on additional responsibilities as necessary. * The ability to formulate creative strategies, strategically assess creative options, and provide detailed follow-through on campaigns is required. * Must exhibit strong problem solving and leadership skills. * Must be assertive, organized, detailed and quality-oriented team player. * Demonstrated experience with Social Media and Web 2.0 channels. * Ability to cultivate and sustain strong relationships with members of the media and with coworkers. * Knowledge of Excel, Lotus Notes, Word and Photoshop. * Willingness to travel. * Must have the legal right to work in the United States
