Title: IT Computer Operator - 3rd Shift Location: CO-Denver Job Number:_1300131 IT Computer Operator 3rd shift - Data Center The working shift schedule isWednesday-Saturday 11:00 PM - 9:30 AM DIRECTV, Inc. is currently seeking an experienced Data Center Operator to join our Denver, Colorado based Operations team. The Data Center Operator will be part of a nationwide Operations team entrusted with the monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, installation & configuration of the distributed server environment within our North America Data Centers. Responsibilities: * Escalation, communication, and management of production system issues and equipment failures. * Monitoring and troubleshooting of AutoSys, VMS & NetBackup jobs & restore requests. * Handling of backup tape media including incoming and outgoing backup tape requests in compliance with established processes and procedures. * Actively seek to identify opportunities for process improvements and alignment with other data center operations teams. * Actively seek to define, document, update and test procedures for day-to-day tasks. * Assisting peer technology teams with rebooting servers, pulling cables, racking hardware, moving data center equipment, keeping the data center clean. * Responds to customer inquires promptly and appropriately. Takes ownership to ensure satisfactory completion of inquiry through engagement of appropriate peer team resources. * Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction by patiently clarifying customer needs and ensuring that they are met. * Deployment and imaging of distributed server hardware using Altiris RapidDeploy. * Utilize general IP networking knowledge to provide hands-on, break/fix support for the data center systems and communications environments. * Ensure consistency with data center standards, policies, and processes including change control, compliance activities, audits, scheduled walkthroughs, checklists, logs, and daily turn-over/weekly management reports. * Participates in the cross-training and mentoring of peer/junior staff. Qualifications for Success: * Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Information Systems, and other IT related topics or commensurate work experience. * 2 years experience in a large collocated data center environment as a computer operator. * 2 years experience with server operating systems (Windows 2003/2008/UNIX/LINUX) and related network disciplines including; TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc. * Experience coordinating troubleshooting activities internally with peer technology teams and externally with equipment vendors. * Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a multi-cultural team environment. * Must be able to lift devices weighing 30 - 50 pounds. * Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends, overtime and potential on-call schedule. Ideal Qualifications: * Previous experience providing monitoring and support within an Enterprise class data center for a variety of applications running within a distributed computing environment. * Previous experience with Datacenter moves and/or build-outs. * Experience with Telco patch panels/tools.
