The Enterprise Data Architect is a full-time position located in San Diego, CA. The candidate will be responsible for creating and supporting the development of the overall long term strategies and direction, defining and governing architecture principles and standards, and developing business and technology oriented reference models to optimize the use of data and information at Bridgepoint Education to support both transactional and decision making capabilities.
Essential Job Duties: . Defines enterprise architecture vision, strategy, principles, standards, reference architectures for their domain to guide project teams in developing technical designs . Assesses industry standards for domain models, and incorporates them into the company domain architecture standards where appropriate. . Defines and implements necessary frameworks, processes and tools to effectively manage the domain architecture including governance/standards processes, modeling capabilities, integration efforts, and communication plans. . Leads in the creation of corporate-wide architecture strategies and roadmaps for the domain to meet overall needs of business, across solutions to meet both near and long term needs. . Manages achievement of Enterprise Architecture, working closely with the Enterprise Architect, Solutions Architects, Software Development Managers and solutions delivery teams. . Works closely with application owners, software engineers, IT, and other business partners to ensure cohesive development of enterprise solutions and to provide consistent alignment with business strategy . Provides advanced technical expertise and thought leadership in their domain architectures. . Ensures the adoption of their domain technologies, driven by functional business demands, industry trends, and both current and future technology capabilities. . Actively contributes to the overall Enterprise Architecture plan through a thorough understanding of the interrelationships between domain architectures, solutions architectures and enterprise architectures. . Influences external domain architecture capabilities through active participation on domain-specific forums, definition/adoption of global standards and contribution to external architecture strategies. . Establishes, coordinates and directs domain architecture activities and is a recognized expert within their global domain architecture community. . Leads and directs activities within the engineering function and business units, including associated reference architectures, design/usage patterns, and domain strategy/standards that empowers a federated architecture team. . Present and adapt technical briefings to various audiences including peers, engineers and executives. . Act as member of Architecture Review board to review project solution architecture for enterprise architecture compliance and approve any exceptions. Additional Job Duties (include but are not limited to):
Specific Domain Duties . Responsible to maximize the value returned in the production and consumption of Information and Data across the enterprise in both transactional and Business Intelligence realms. . Maintain business common information model and data flow architecture. . Ensures data quality and master data governance across the enterprise o Defines and identifies reference data, and provide strategy and process to harmonize Master Data creation and access across the enterprise. o Defines a Meta-Data strategy to describe and administer data, and provide data lineage tracking ability. o Defines and maintains data governance, stewardship and quality processes and capabilities o Develops and maintains data interoperability standards and interfaces. . Works closely with application owners, software engineers, IT, and other business partners to ensure cohesive development of enterprise applications, business intelligence and other information enabling and decision making technologies and to provide consistent alignment with business strategy General Domain Duties . Leads the development of domain architecture best practices. . Balance short-term versus long-term actions, strategic versus tactical requirements, while continuing to move forward towards the strategic vision. . Ensures compliance with the overall Enterprise Architecture vision and scope. . Educates and raises awareness of BPE staff and partners on their enterprise domain architecture principles, standards and direction. . Demonstrates business value of their domain architecture to interdepartmental partners as well as sourcing partners. . Monitors and interprets trends that occur within their domain space. . Assists in evaluating market size, competitor accomplishments and industry structures, and assist in making recommendations to senior management for developing goals . Assists with the development and lifecycle evolution of architectural standards, reference models, guidelines, principles, current state diagrams, reference baselines, and target architectures for all development efforts. . Stays abreast of current and future technologies in domain management tools, integration technologies and platforms, domain architecture, and business application design. . Participates in Business Development efforts. . Drives Innovation and Change. . Reviews investment spend to ensure it aligns with roadmaps, target state and strategic goals. . Performs Project Solution Architecture duties as needed and assigned. Core Competencies:

Minimum Requirements:
. 10+ years of experience in Information Technology . 7+ years of Data and Information architecture experience . 3+ years experience in performing solutions architecture type responsibilities. . 3+ years experience working in a Services Oriented Architecture (SOA) environment, with such technologies as web services, BPEL and Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) and Data Virtualization systems. . 3+ years experience working with Data Integration, ETL, Warehousing, BI, Data Management and Data Modeling technologies . Strong understanding of enterprise-wide common information domain modeling . Experience across both transactional and decision support domains . Solid experience with logical and physical database schema design . Strong problem-solving skills across both process and technical domains. . Strong collaboration skills-ability to provide technical leadership and resolve conflicts of opinion across diverse, cross-functional teams. . Ability to communicate and translate technical strategy to non-technical business leaders and executive senior management. . Strong organizational, leadership, decision making, mentorship and communication skills . Ability to plans and execute project work plans and revises as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements. . Firm understanding of Data and Information Architecture, Enterprise Architecture Frameworks and Design Patterns . Firm understanding of data and application stack technologies. . Experience with multiple development methodologies (including Waterfall and Agile) . Familiarity with the SCRUM methodology including roles and responsibilities and interactions of the SCRUM Master, Product Owner and Team Members in an Agile environment . A team player with ability to work both within a team and independently. . Customer-service oriented and able to work in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment. . Good oral and written communication skills evidenced by a background in preparing comprehensive documentation incorporating complex information
