Requisition # 124820BR Posting Job Title Public Relations Director Business Business Support Market Location US - California - Palo Alto Position Type Full Time Posting Job Description The Director, Communications will manage media relations, publicity campaigns, and external communications for AOL mail, messaging and mobile products.
• Developing and managing media plans and publicity campaigns for new product launches and related developments, and executing the strategies to generate awareness in the consumer, trade and business press, and among industry influencers including analysts and bloggers • Working with product teams and business owners to position products and create optimal launch opportunities; pitch products, trend stories and business accomplishments to target media outlets; use relevant trade events and conferences to increase visibility, and identify appropriate speaking opportunities to define the company's leadership in this area. Will also manage any crisis communications related to the area of expertise • Responsible for writing strategic plans, press releases, talking points, Q&As, briefing memos, and distributed media materials; managing messages; and coordinating product launch program activities including briefing tours and presentations, press events, satellite media tours, radio media tours, and video news releases • Act as a company spokesperson on behalf of specific products and initiatives, and manage media training for executive spokespersons. Work closely with internal teams on integrated marketing communications and programming plans (editorial, marketing, network promotions, etc.) • Responsible for building relationships in Silicon Valley and developing with the department leader a positioning strategy for AOL in Silicon Valley and executing upon it
This position reports to the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer and is a member of the department’s leadership team – contributing to the overall strategic communications plan and direction for the company.
• Minimum 10-12 years of relevant experience in an Internet company • Clear and strategic thinking; ability to develop and implement media strategy • Excellent written and verbal skills as well as presentation/communications skills • Strong media relations skills – experienced spokesperson with strong relationships with media • Demonstrated ability to generate business, trade and consumer coverage • Ability to drive development and implementation of media outreach plans • Public company experience preferred
