Finding and getting hired for your dream job is a big challenge...
Finding and getting hired for your dream job is a big challenge. If you feel like you’ve been job hunting and submitting resumes forever, then something may be wrong. Lucky for you, there are specific warning signs that can help you determine if and how you can improve your job search strategy.
Here are 5 warning signs that indicate you are not on the right track:
Sending out generic resumes
This is one way to ensure that you won’t get anywhere in your job search. Put yourself in the hiring manager’s shoes. Would you like to receive a resume that says “Dear Sir/Madam”? If you really want to make a positive impression on the prospective employer, take the time out research the company and the hiring personnel.
Lack of focus
Another indication that says your job search stinks is if you are losing focus and accepting any job that comes your way. Patience is a virtue. You should not send out applications to employer stating that you will take any job that the company has to offer, because it will send the message to the employer that you are not focused, not skilled and not confidence. Instead, set a specific target and concentrate all your search effort on that task.
Focusing on the salary instead of the job
Making it clear that you’re more interested in the salary you will receive rather than the job that you will do for the company and what you can learn in the process will discourage hiring professionals.
A negative attitude
You may not realize this but negative emotions often have a way of manifesting in the way your resume is written and presented. Keep a positive outlook if you don’t want to diminish your chances of getting the job.
Not seeking professional help
If you feel completely lost and don’t know what to do, yet you still will not seek professional advice and aid, your job search will likely keep going awry. Don’t be afraid or too proud to ask for a nudge in the right direction. The right career professional can give you the jumpstart you need.
Even if your job search isn’t going the way you planned, don’t lose hope! There are many ways in which you can improve your strategy and land your dream job. It’s only a matter of determination and perspective.
